This section is your primary resource for gaining a comprehensive understanding of the visitor dynamics on your website. It's designed to help you delve into the intricacies of your web traffic patterns and discover the sources driving users to your sites.

Sessions

A session is a sequence of interactions that a user has with your website, within a defined time period. The start of a session is marked by the user's arrival on the website, and it ends:

  • After 30 minutes of inactivity
  • At midnight
  • When a user visits the website through a new source (acquisition channel), different from the current one. Direct traffic that interacts with the website's content is considered part of the current session.

Example: If user A visits x.com and clicks a link to your site, he starts a session attributed to a referral from x.com. If he immediately visits y.com and clicks a link to your site, he starts a new session attributed to a referral from y.com.

Sessions indicate the total number of today's sessions tracked on your website up to now. This metric updates approximately every 1 hour.

By closely monitoring and analyzing sessions, you can get valuable information on your website's audience size, engagement, content performance, and monetization potential. By understanding user behavior through sessions, you can optimize your strategies, enhance user experience, and maximize revenue opportunities.

How to increase Sessions:

  • Enhance website performance and reduce load times to provide a smoother user experience.
  • Implement clear and intuitive navigation to help users find what they need quickly.
  • Offer personalized content and recommendations based on user preferences and behavior.

  • Optimize mobile responsiveness to accommodate users accessing the site from various devices.

Sessions by Device

Sessions by device represent your website's sessions, split by device:

  • The Last 24 Hours chart displays the sessions for the last 24 hours per hour, grouped by device. The data is updated every one hour.
  • The Last 7 Days chart displays the daily sessions for the last 7 days, including today's sessions recorded so far, grouped by device. The available devices are:
  • Desktop
  • Mobile  (includes tablet)
  • Other (includes smart TV, bot traffic, etc.)

The chart updates every 1 hour.

Important Note: The calculation of active sessions per hour differs from the cumulative count of total daily active sessions. For example, if a session starts at 10:30 and ends at 11:45, even though it spans two consecutive hours, it contributes only once to the total count of daily active sessions. This distinction is essential to accurately interpret and analyze the distribution of active sessions throughout the day.

Monitoring sessions by device provides valuable insights that enable you to enhance user experience, optimize marketing strategies, improve conversions, and align your digital presence with user preferences across different devices.

Sessions per Acquisition channel

Acquisition channels, also known as traffic sources, refer to the various means through which users discover and land on your website. In the Project Agora Observability Platform, you can track the origin of your website's visitors, through a selection of acquisition channels:

  • Direct: Visitors who arrive at your website by typing your URL directly into their browser or through a bookmark
  • Search: Visitors who arrive at your website through a search engine query
  • Social: Visitors who arrive at your website through social media platforms
  • Email: Visitors who arrive at your website by clicking on a link through an email
  • Other: Visitors who arrive at your website through channels not classified under the above groupings, e.g. traffic generated by Project Agora Content Recommendation etc.

Sessions per Acquisition channel represent the number of today's sessions that have been generated up to now, split by acquisition channel. This metric updates approximately every 1 hour.

Analyzing sessions per acquisition channel provides valuable insights into how different sources or channels are contributing to user engagement on your website. By understanding which channels are most effective in driving engagement, you can optimize your strategies, allocate resources wisely, and enhance the overall user experience on your platform.
